Six Popular Places in Palma de Mallorca, Spain

  1. The CATHEDRAL is the main religious building of the is land of Mallorca and is known as La Seu. It consists of a Gothic-Levantine stucture constructed on the bank of the Bay of Palma, overlooking the sea above the Arabic walls that protected the city. in 1931 the Cathedral was declared a historic-Artistic monument. It has the largest rosette from the Gothic world and one of the tallest naves among those of the European Gothic style.
  2. The Royal PALACE OF THE ALMUDAINA is the Royal Palace or Alcazar Real of the city of Palma de Mallorca and one of the residences  of the Spanish Royal Family. It holds within its walls the history of the     islands from the megalithic settlements. it is currently used by the Spanish Royal family as an official residence for state ceremonies and receptions during the summer. The present sructure of the Almudaina  divided into several wings  is from  the 14th century. The king’s and Queen’s  palace, the Santa ana chapel and the baths are the most noteworthy.
  3. The BeLLER CASTLE is a Mallorcan-Gothic castle located 11/2 miles from the city of Palma de Mallorca. it was constructure at the beginning of the 14th century and is located on a hill over 300 feet above sea level, in an area surrounded by woods, from where the city can be viewed.
  4. THE PUEBLOf ESPANOL is a tourist attraction with samples of Spanish architecture of different areas and periods, locted approximately one mile from the center of the city in the Pueblo Espanol there is an auditorium, a modern hall for festivals, several handicraft stores and restaurants.
  5. THE LONJA is a stucture from the 15th century, that is one of the finest examples of Gothic arthitecture on Mallorca. it was the headquarters of the college of merchants an is currently a museum of Balearic Art.
  6. La CAIXA FOUNDATION is a new museum, administered by a private foundation and is located in the modernist grand hotel in the Plaza Weyler.
