Den Grimme Ælling

Dane Bjarne Hvid Pedersen is well established with his popular Copenhagen restaurant in the food court at Palleet. His smørbrød are the best buy in town: lots of meat, fish and cheese on a small piece of bread. He also has daily dinner specials, such as hakkebøf (Danish Salisbury steak) with gravy, onions, and potatoes, or frikadeller (Danish Meat cakes). They are all home made. Address : Paleet, Karl Johans Gate 41B, tel. 22/42-47-83.

Kaffistova

Norwegian country cooking is served, cafeteria style,  at this downtown restaurant. Everyday specials include soup and selection entrées, including a vegetarian dish. Kjøttkaker (meat cakes rather like Salisbury steak) served with creamed cabbage is a Norwegian staple, and the steamed salmon with Sandefjord butter is as good here as in places where it costs three times as much. Low alcohol beer is the strongest drink served. Address: Rosenkrantz’ Gate 8, tel. 22/42-95-30.

Lofotstua

This rustic fish restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and personal service right out of Norway’s far north. Fresh cod and seafood from Lofoten are among the good, moderately priced food served here. Address : Kirkevn. 40, tel. 22/46-93-96.

Quatro Amigos

A favorite among the young crowd, this simple restaurant is the place to hit when you crave spicy Mexican and big portions. The menu has all the standards, including enciladas, tacos, and burritos, which are served alongside rice, black beans, and salad. Address:  Stortingsgt. 16. Tel. 22/42-48-30.

Task City Grill.

In the midst of the Olso City Shopping mall’s food court is a tiny , authentic German restaurant, complete with oompah music. The gilled bratwurst (with real german mustard and curry Ketchup) with homemade potato salad is the most filling cheap meal in town, while the eisbein and the pea soup, both homemade, are hearty fare. Address: Stenersgt. 1, tel. 22/17-05-12.

Vegeta

Vegeta restaurant is located next to the Nationaltheatret bus and street car station. This restaurant is a non-smoking restaurant that offers you hot and cold vegetable meals and salads. It also offers the-all-you-can-eat meals.  Address : Munkedamsvn, 3B, tel. 22/83-40-20.
